Australian aviation network overview by month
International Air Transport Association (IATA) Review of Airservices Australia's Air Traffic Flow Management Delay Attribution Framework
Building on our efforts to increase transparency and foster industry understanding of the network performance, we recently engaged the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to review Airservices Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) reporting framework. The review identified continual improvement opportunities to align data, systems and business processes to international best practices, while acknowledging the overall effectiveness of the framework. Airservices has accepted all recommendations.
Air Traffic Management Network Performance Dashboard
This daily tally focuses on network performance at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth airports, part of the Ground Delay Program.
Terms used in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) Network Performance Dashboard
- Hours with GDP in place:
- Total hours where the demand for scheduled flights exceeded predicted airport capacity. This then triggers a GDP to ensure timely arrivals at each destination airport.
- Arrivals:
- Total arrivals at this airport (actual).
- Ground Delay:
- Total flight delays experienced while waiting for an assigned GDP slot. Airlines may optimise the slots to minimise delays.
- Ground Delay - Airservices' Attributes:
- Proportion of ground delay due to Airservices' reduced service delivery.
- Ground Delay - Other Attributed:
- Proportion of ground delay as a result of factors outside of Airservices’ control, which include inclement weather, aircraft technical issues, airline decisions and reduced airport usability.
- Cancellations:
- Number of cancellations of flights scheduled to arrive at this airport.
- Cancellations - Airservices' Attributes:
- Number of flight cancellations and percentage of total delayed arrivals attributable to Airservices’ reduced service delivery.
- Cancellations - Other Attributed:
- Number of flight cancellations and percentage of total arrivals cancelled outside of Airservices’ control. Triggers include inclement weather, aircraft technical issues, airline decisions and reduced airport usability.
