Airservices Australia finalises new Community Engagement Standard following national consultation

Airservices Australia has worked closely with the community and aviation industry to finalise a new national engagement approach for the development and implementation of flightpath changes.

The newly completed national Community Engagement Standard is the culmination of direct feedback gathered at 13 community engagement drop-in sessions around Australia, and 10 webinars, held from 3 May to 23 June 2023.

More than 560 people directly engaged with the program in person, online and via a survey.

Airservices Chief Executive Officer Jason Harfield said the Standard defined best-practice process for engaging with communities on flightpath and airspace changes and provided a benchmark to measure future community engagement activities.

“We sincerely thank the community for their feedback on our national Community Engagement Standard,” Mr Harfield said.

“Following national community consultation, several additions were made to the Standard, including extending minimum engagement timeframes, expanding our range of engagement tools and more. We are committed to timely, meaningful and transparent engagement with communities and the aviation industry on flightpath and airspace change proposals.”

Airservices will continue to seek feedback on the Standard in the interests of continuous improvement.
